Restaurant Test ‘n Tell: Chef’s Warehouse & Canteen

The Chef’s Warehouse is a restaurant with a difference, and Dirk Jacobs (Manager of Cape Cadogan) paid them a visit to see what all the fuss was about. Naturally this was in his quest to tell us all more about the experience, since we walk the walk for our guests and will only recommend something if we have personally tested it.

This is literally a chef’s shop, for professionals and amateurs alike. At the back is the canteen which includes three long bench-styled tables. The menu changes daily, and includes a set menu complemented with wines which are specially selected. The “small plate” menu items are served for those who prefer to share.

The restaurant does not take reservations. We think it’s because they love the company at the bar so much, where patrons (soon to become friends) are invited to pass a little time before their table is ready.

Dirk really loved the set up here – part restaurant, part kitchen and part pantry. You walk through the storeroom to get to the restroom! The quirky contrast between beautiful cutlery and crockery, and artistically plated food all in a informal canteen setting is standalone.

Service also got the big thumbs up. It is personal and relaxed, yet never bypasses professional.

This one got a big 5 out of 5 from Dirk (and his standards are exacting….), and joins our list of recommended dining venues in the Cape Town area for our guests who match the profile.

Thanks Dirk! Who’s hungry?
