For foodies: A culinary tour in the fairest Cape

A food tour in Cape Town is a great way to explore the city, perfect whether you prefer being in a vehicle or on foot. We love how food has the ability to bring people together, and this tour will give you the opportunity to not only sample some of Cape Town’s best sweet and savoury treats, but also to experience the uniquely diverse South African culture in the company of those you love most.

Depending on the time you have available, you can chose from either a full day or a half day tour. A local guide will accompany you on your excursion, and show you around areas well known and regularly frequented by ‘the locals’.

The full day itinerary comprises the following sequence:

  • Depart from the hotel at 09:00. Head on over to Wale Street to enjoy coffee roasting and a cup of fresh coffee, or do a session of ‘coffee cupping’ where you taste and compare different coffees.

  • Move to the parade, where you’ll get to taste the freshest of koeksisters (a traditional South African confectionery made of fried dough infused in syrup or honey). If you prefer something savoury, we highly recommend the samosas. Tasting goes hand in hand with learning a bit of the history of the parade and City Hall.
  • Next stop is Honest Chocolate in the Woodstock Exchange. Learn how to make Bon-Bons with a master!

  • Woodstock Gin Distillery where you’ll get to enjoy a gin tasting and learn a bit more about the locally made spirit.
  • Meander through the streets of Woodstock, enjoying some of the finest street art. Take a leisurely stroll through Company Gardens, and into Long Street towards Wale Street.
  • It’s now time to familiarise yourself with the Bo-Kaap region. Learn about this colourful neighbourhood (both in look and character), while visiting a local spice shop and sampling some Daaltjies (chilli bites) and a samosa from Biesmillah.
  • Although lunch is not included, Bree Street has some great spots (favourites being Bacon on Bree, The Station on Bree or Odyssey Restaurant and Gastro Pub). The choice is yours!

The half day tour is slightly shortened, and excludes Honest Chocolate, Woodstock Distillery, and the journey through the Company Gardens and Long Street.
